Have you ever missed an airline flight? Been late for an important meeting? If so, you know the feeling of dread when you had to find another flight or explain to your superior why you were late.
Imagine the torment if we’re not ready when Jesus returns.
I like the story of the ten virgins. It gives us a vivid illustration of what will happen if we are not prepared when Jesus comes back. He will return at a day and time that we do not know. The five foolish virgins, as described in the Bible, were not prepared and not ready. They did not bring oil with them and assumed they could borrow oil from the five wise virgins ( I will discuss them in my next blog).
The bridegroom did not come when they expected and all of them fell asleep. When he came unexpectedly, the five foolish virgins were out of oil. By the time they went and bought more oil the groom had departed and locked the building door.
Ladies, we don’t want to miss Jesus, our bridegroom, when He returns. We need to keep oil in our lamps, keep a light burning in His temple (our physical body), and never run out of oil (His Holy Spirit).
We can’t borrow anointing or God’s Spirit from anyone else. We have to have our own oil in our temples.
To keep our oil burning and our light shining we need to meditate on God’s word and spend intimate, quality time with Him.
So, let’s not get lax and neglect to keep our lamps trimmed, our oil burning, and our lights shining.
Jesus could return at any time, just like the bridegroom in the scriptures, and we don’t want to be locked out.
Meditational Scripture: “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish……..”
