When I was younger and heard older people say, “I have to get home before it gets dark;” “I don’t go to the gas station after dark;” “I do my grocery shopping and get my hair done early in the morning,” I considered the statements thoughts of fear.
I was a young whipper-snapper and didn’t understand what I do now. I can relate to what the seniors were saying now that I’m enjoying my ‘winter years.’ It seems the world is becoming an ugly, mean, violent place to reside. When I was younger, I looked at things differently – through the eyes of a youngster, and did not see what the elders saw. Now mature, I look at the world from a different perspective. I’m not as strong, active, and quick as I was when a youth, and I realize I wouldn’t be able to handle situations the same today as I did then.
A few weeks ago, I awoke in a sad and downcast mood. The enemy had put thoughts that no one could be trusted; everyone was out for themselves, and no one cared about anyone else into my head.
But the Holy Spirit dwelling within got me back on the right track.
The Spirit of Truth reminded me of the kind, honest, generous people that bring me joy.
He reminded me it is still good in the world.
Not everyone is evil and untrustworthy.
The Holy Spirit reminded me to think about things that are lovely, and of a good report, and not dwell on the negative things in life.
I don’t desire to live like a prisoner in my home and community.
I wouldn’t say I like the thought of living in fear.
Because of the wickedness that comes out after dark, I’m not fond of rushing home before dusk.
Yes, the devil and his little minions love darkness and hate the light because they can do their dirty deeds invisible.
I remember to whom I belong and that the ‘Greater’ one lives within me.
I meditate that I have authority over Satan and all the powers of darkness.
God’s Holy Spirit lives within me!
We can face life when we remember the kindness, beauty, and truthfulness of others.
“The ideas that have lighted my way and, time after time, have given me new courage to face life cheerfully have been kindness, beauty, and truth.”____________________________________Albert Einstein
