Below are nine ways to minimize anxiety in your life:
1. Create a comfortable work environment –
- Keep things in your office or on the desk that calms you and/or makes you laugh.
- Make your work area feel like ‘home,’ – pictures, plants, photos, atomizer with jasmine or other calming fragrance.
2. Set limits on your time –
- Balance work with play.
- Be sure that your leisure time is not spent thinking about job-related problems.
LEAVE work at the office at the end of the day.
PRACTICE SAYING, “NO”.
3. Negotiate with family for a time to relax –
- Don’t fill every minute with work and planned activities.
- Leave a little time to do nothing.
- Your body needs time to just wind down.
4. Exercise –
- When your body is in good shape, you are less likely to get sick from stress.
- Regular exercise will also help minimize anxiety by decreasing muscle tension.
5. Maintain a sense of humor –
- Laugh at situations that cause hassle and anxiety.
- It may not change the circumstances but will modify your reaction to it.
6. Get enough sleep –
- Your body needs a chance to pull itself together, especially when you’re experiencing trauma.
- You should aim for eight hours of sleep nightly.
Your need for sleep does not decrease as you age.
7. Set priorities –
- Manage your time.
- Do important things first and realize you cannot do everything.
- REMEMBER: There is always tomorrow to complete non-urgent tasks.
DELEGATE.
8. Know your limits –
- Pace major life changes.
- Don’t alter too many areas of your life over a short time span – new house, car, job, and child at the same time.
9. Try relaxation techniques –
- Learn to relax.
- Employing relaxation techniques that do not involve drugs or alcohol will be of significant value.
- Relaxing the body and mind is the best remedy for the distressed and anxious individual.
Talk to a family member, friend, co-worker, or professional counselor about the things that are getting to you. Getting things out in the open is a good way to minimize stress.
